The Vancouver Voice was a a free-press alternative newspaper in SW Washington that I co-founded in 2006, ran, and eventually sold in 2008.
🧾 Synopsis
In early 2006, my then closest friend and still co-conspirator James Walling was working as the Screen Editor of Portland's Willamette Week newspaper, and I was writing film reviews for him on the side. I had recently moved back to Vancouver from Maui and was itching to sink my teeth into a project.
As I reintegrated myself back into the Uptown Village community, it quickly became apparent that there was enough going on in SW Washington to warrant a free-press, alternative newspaper (à la Willamette Week) and, of course, James and I were going to be the one's to start it. We, along with Melissa Vander Wilt (née Wolf), the backbone of the organization, launched, ran and eventually sold this paper over the span of a couple years.
In 2008, during the great recession when everyone was sounding the death knell of newspapers, we sold The Vancouver Voice to News-Register Publishing Company - a family-owned, fourth-generation printing company based out of McMinnville, Oregon.
They continued to run The Vancouver Voice for a few more years until 2011, citing "general economic malaise in the region, and specific challenges to the newspaper industry.", they folded.

📃 Synopsis
I co-founded Bivouac Racing, a trail-based running events company based here in Vancouver, WA, in 2018, with my wife, brother- and sister-in-law. I spearheaded it's creation an entity (name, logo, etc.) and set in place all the structures and infrastructure to ensure it's success. In it's inaugural year, we successfully hosted 4 races at various state parks around Oregon - Silver Falls State Park, Cape Lookout State Park, Stub Stewart State Park & Fort Stephens State Park.
